WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The "BBQ Style" fishing tournament at Walker’s Cay brings a relaxed, outdoor vibe to the event, with buffet-style meals and a casual captain’s meeting under a covered tent in the island's gantry area. Set against the stunning Bahamas backdrop, this laid-back format offers a refreshing alternative to the traditional sit-down setting, perfect for enjoying the camaraderie and the island atmosphere.

TOURNAMENT RULES

The Wahoo Classic Captains Meeting will be at 7:30pm on Feb 28th, 2024. A representative from each team should attend the Captains Meeting as each team is responsible for knowing the rules including any clarifications made during the Captain’s Meeting.

 

Participants are allowed to Stay on Little Grand Cay! See Rule #6.

1. PERMITS & LICENSES

All teams must possess a Bahamas Fishing Permit.

 

2. FISHING HOURS

The Walker’s Cay Wahoo Classic will begin with the call of "lines in" at 7:00am and continue until 4:00pm on March 1st & 2nd. Boats may leave the marina at 5:00am. Any fish hooked before 4:00pm and reported to the tournament committee may be fought until caught, lost or released; any fish hooked after 4:00pm is ineligible. All boats must be inside of the marina (crossing into the entrance of the marina marked by the rocks/breakwater) before 6:30pm each evening. There are no lay days or weather days, unless determined by the Committee. Fish at your own risk.

 

3. ANGLING & EQUIPMENT

  • Hook and hand is permitted with one pass as soon as possible.

  • All fish must be caught on rod and reel.

  • Wire lines are permitted.

  • Electric Reels are allowed.

  • A maximum of five (5) rods per boat may be fished at one time.

  • To be eligible to compete as a Junior Angler, the angler must be 16 years old or under at the start of the tournament registration.

 

4. BOUNDARIES

There is a 50-mile boundary rule - radius from the Walker’s Cay Marina.

6. DAILY CHECK-OUT

March 1st 2025 and March 2nd 2025 – There will be a boat check conducted on the fishing morning starting @ 4:00 AM at Walker’s Cay. (LINES IN WATER AT 6:45AM) Lines and hooks cannot be in the water prior to 7AM.  Your boat will be visually inspected to make sure each team starts the fishing day with no WAHOO on board. (BE SURE TO REMOVE ANY FISH FROM DAY PRIOR OR YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!) Any boat that refuses inspection will be automatically disqualified from the tournament. Once you are inspected and released by tournament committee your set to start your fishing day. ***BOATS STAYING AT LITTLE GRAND CAY MUST Check-In @Walker’s Cay Marina prior to heading out to fish each day***

 

7. TOURNAMENT SPECIES

Wahoo, Tuna (Bigeye, Yellowfin or Blackfin only), Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) and Barracuda are eligible for weigh-in, with a 10 lb. minimum weight requirement.

 

8. FISH LIMIT

A maximum of 5 Wahoo can be weighed in per boat each day. Each fish must weigh a minimum of 10 lbs. Fish that do not meet these requirements will not count. All fish must be weighed in fresh and edible condition. No mutilated fish or frozen fish score.

 

9. MUTILIATION TO THE FISH

Mutilation to the fish, prior to landing or boating the catch, caused by sharks, other fish, mammals, or propellers that remove or penetrate the flesh with lead to Disqualification of the fish from weigh-in and points. Injuries caused by leader or line, scratches, old, healed scars or regeneration deformities are not considered to be disqualifying injuries.

 

10. GAMEFISH DIVISION WEIGH-IN

Scale hours are 4:00p.m. – 6:30p.m. each fishing day. The minimum weight of each species is 10 pounds. Any fish eligible for weigh-in must be brought to the scales by a team representative, preferably the actual angler.

 

In the event of a tie in total points between two or more boats for the same award, the winner shall be the first boat to weigh-in!

11. CATCH & RELEASE VERIFICATION

Identification Markers - each team will obtain 10 colored silicon bands prior to the day’s fishing. This marker must be displayed during the fight and recorded. Failure to show the marker in your video proof will disqualify your catch, even if it is time-stamped.

GPS Track Lines from the entire tournament day are required if you do not have track lines from the whole day you may be disqualified. These Track Lines must start at Walker’s Cay Marina when your boat is checked and must be visible to the tournament committee until Sunday Evening. (Its 2024 figure out how to have your track lines saved.)

Video - Video of Fish will be Required. (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CAMERA or phone Charged and AVAILABLE all day VIDEOS WILL BE CHECKED. Video of each fish coming into the boat and on deck will be required, in that same video you must have the GPS Current Coordinates and time on GPS which must matchup to your phone or camera time. Also, a certain item will be required in that video. (THE FISH and the WHOLE GPS screens MUST BE CLEAR!!)

12. DISPUTES OR PROTESTS

All disputes will be settled by the Committee. All decisions are final.

 

13. TOURNAMENT POLICY & LIABILITY WAIVER

By signing the entry, you adhere to all tournament rules.

 

Walker’s Cay has right to move tournament dates in case of severe weather and can refuse entry/participation to anyone for any reason at any time.

 

All participants are expected to maintain a reasonable and sportsmanlike demeanor at all times throughout the tournament. Unsportsmanlike or threatening conduct towards tournament organizers or other participants, or any other behavior which the tournament organizers deem inappropriate, in their sole discretion, will result in immediate disqualification of the entire team with no refund of entry fees.

 

Participants of this tournament enter at their own risk. Officials, committee members, sponsors and ALL persons connected directly or indirectly with the operations of the Walker’s Cay shall be exempt from any liability for loss, damage or negligence, harm or injury suffered by any participant, entrant, sportfishing vessel, captain, crew members, vessels and equipment which may occur during this tournament.

 

Cancellation Policy:

Entry fee is non-refundable unless tournament is cancelled by Walker’s Cay. Walker’s Cay has the right to move, postpone and or cancel a day(s) of the tournament due to severe weather.

MANDATORY CALCUTTA

Calcutta’s Pay out 90%, Tournament Keeps 10%

  1. $500 - Biggest Wahoo (Winner Take All) -

  2. $2,000 - Biggest Wahoo (60/40 Split)

  3. $2,500 - 5 Wahoo Aggregate (50/30/20 Split)

 

Optional Calcutta’s:

  1. Largest Barracuda - $250 Winner Takes All

  2. Largest Mahi - $250 Winner Takes All

  3. Largest Tuna - $250 Winner Takes All
